Select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Start\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Settings\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Windows Update\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Check for updates<\/b>.\n<ul>\n<li>If there are no updates for your camera, try to select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Advanced options\u00a0<\/b>&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Optional updates<\/b>, and look for any driver updates for your camera. Allow available updates to install, then restart your device when it&#8217;s ready.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Restart your PC. If you haven&#8217;t restarted your device since the camera stopped working, you should do so. Select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Start\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Power\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Restart\u00a0<\/b>. Waking up your device from sleep isn&#8217;t the same thing as a restart.<\/li>\n<li>Test your camera with the Camera app. Select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Start\u00a0<\/b>,\u00a0then choose\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Camera\u00a0<\/b>from your apps. If you&#8217;re asked to allow access to the Camera, select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Yes<\/b>. If the camera works in the Camera app, the problem might be with the app you&#8217;re trying to use.<a class=\"ocpExternalLink supLinkButton\" role=\"button\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Open Camera<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If your camera still doesn\u2019t work, here are some other things to try. For the\u00a0best results, try the possible fixes in the order presented.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"bkmk_check-for-camera-switch-w11\" class=\"ocpSection\" aria-labelledby=\"ID0EDJBBDDD\" data-bi-id=\"bkmk_check-for-camera-switch-w11\">\n<h2 id=\"ID0EDJBBDDD\" class=\"\" aria-label=\"Check for a camera switch or button on your device\">Check for a camera switch or button on your device<\/h2>\n<p>Some laptops and portable devices have a physical switch or button that turns the camera on or off. When it&#8217;s turned off, your device may not\u00a0recognize that there&#8217;s a camera installed, or it may cause your camera to show an image of a camera with a slash through it. If your laptop has a switch or button, make sure it&#8217;s in the on position before using your camera.<\/p>\n<p>Those switches or buttons may not be easy to find, so make sure you check all possible places. For example, it could be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A button on the keyboard that&#8217;s activated with the Fn key<\/li>\n<li>A dedicated camera button on the\u00a0keyboard<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.content.office.net\/en-us\/media\/3e97be97-0942-4b28-82eb-da3b51f78614.png\" alt=\"Shows the keyboard key that turns off the camera. In newer versions of Windows 11, some apps won&#8217;t have default access to the camera.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how to let your apps\u00a0access the camera:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>Select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Start\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Settings\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Privacy &amp; security\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Camera\u00a0<\/b>.<a class=\"ocpExternalLink supLinkButton\" role=\"button\" href=\"privacy-webcam?activationSource=SMC-Article-13753\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Allow access to the camera on this device<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Make sure\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Camera access<\/b>\u00a0is turned on.\n<div class=\"ocpAlert\">\n<p class=\"ocpAlertSection\"><b class=\"ocpNote\">Note:\u00a0<\/b>If camera access for the device is turned off and greyed out, you&#8217;ll need an administrator on the device to turn on camera access for you.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>Make sure\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Let apps access your camera<\/b>\u00a0is turned on.<\/li>\n<li>Choose which apps should have access. Only apps that were installed from the Microsoft Store will appear\u00a0in this list.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you&#8217;re having problems with an app that you did not install from\u00a0Microsoft Store, make sure that\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Let desktop apps access your camera<\/b>\u00a0is turned on. You can&#8217;t turn off camera access for individual desktop apps. Internet browsers, like Microsoft Edge, and many video conferencing apps, like Microsoft Teams, are desktop apps that require this setting to be turned on.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"ocpSection\" aria-labelledby=\"ID0EDBBHBBDDD\">\n<h3 id=\"ID0EDBBHBBDDD\" class=\"\" aria-label=\"Check your antivirus software\">Check your antivirus software<\/h3>\n<p>In your antivirus software settings, look for settings that block\u00a0access to your camera or permission to use your camera.\u00a0For help, visit your antivirus software company\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"ocpSection\" aria-labelledby=\"ID0EFFBBDDD\">\n<h2 id=\"ID0EFFBBDDD\" class=\"\" aria-label=\"Check your hardware drivers\">Check your hardware drivers<\/h2>\n<section class=\"ocpSection\" aria-labelledby=\"ID0EDHBFBBDDD\">\n<h3 id=\"ID0EDHBFBBDDD\" class=\"\" aria-label=\"Try a different USB port and scan for hardware changes\">Try a different USB port and scan for hardware changes<\/h3>\n<p>If you&#8217;re using an external camera, try\u00a0using it with\u00a0a different USB port on your device first.\u00a0If that doesn&#8217;t work, or your camera is built in on\u00a0your device, try this:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>Select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Start\u00a0<\/b>, type\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">device manager<\/b>, then select it\u00a0from the search results.<\/li>\n<li>Find your camera\u00a0under\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Cameras<\/b>,\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Imaging devices<\/b>,\u00a0or\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Sound, video and game controllers<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>If you can&#8217;t find your camera, select the\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Action\u00a0<\/b>menu, then select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Scan for hardware changes<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for it to scan and reinstall updated drivers, restart your device, then open the Camera app again to test it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/section>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If the camera\/webcam is not working on your Windows PC\/Laptop Do these steps first : Check for updates.
